Powershot G7 first pictures!

Canon has a big surprise: the Powershot G-series has not come a silent end with the G6.
Tomorrow will be the introduction of the G7 model (yes, it took some effort to get the pictures…)
People used to previous G-series cameras recognise a lot of features, but Canon promises an even better usability. Many features are a natural evolution from earlier G’s: 6 x optical zoom, long-life Li-Ion battery, faster DIGIC III processor and a 10.2 MP sensor.
Fortunately, the hot shoe for a flash is still present.
Not so fortunate is the display: it’s fixed now…
This is the first Canon to make 1024×768 resolution movies (with 15 frames per second). Funny is that all movie-options use the 4:3 ratio, where many competitors go for a 16:9 widescreen option.
Canon’s famous 9-point autofocus is made very, very clever: it can select human faces to focus on. Wow, I really would like to test this feature…
And yes, that’s the bottom line: we need to hold this camera in our hands to experience it. Within Canon’s offerings it has to compete with the S3 IS with a bigger zoom, variable display and standard AA batteries. The G3 even has to compete with the newer SLR models, and that’s gonna be a big struggle!
