At DCresource a Samsung NV10 is tested - and if they test, they do it well!

The NV10 is one out of Samsung’s new series of compact cameras. Most of the specifications are not very unique, but the styling is great and handling… er… is different.
Most cameras have either a lot of buttons everywhere or just a few, including a fourway-button to navigate the menus.

Samsung’s revolutionary system uses two rows of buttons, with which you can select items on the intersections.
According to the reviewers, it takes some time to get used to, but as soon as you get the hang of it… it works perfectly!

Maybe the most striking thing is that Samsung has the courage to think in different ways. That’s good: that’s what takes the digicam revolution a step further!

Among the greatest feats of this camera are a very robust build: you can take it wherever you like under any circumstances - maybe even on the beach???
Also super is an inbuild stabilizer that corrects movement of the image sensor. Better to buy it once in the camera body than pay for this option in every lens!

A drawback is the lens system: another “standard”, another vendor lock-in…

Still, Ä°m glad Samsung dares to invest in camera development, providing alternatives for established vendors!

This Fall the next generation Samsung digicams will hit the shops. And they look amazingly nice: black metal, maybe a bit futuristic…

The NV3 has more or less “standard” specs with a 7.2 MP sensor and 3x optical zoom - but very nicely packed.
At the other end is the NV10 with 10 MP and a 5x optical lens.
In between is the NV7, sporting a 7.2 MP CCD and a 7x optical zoomlens.

Samsung clearly is taking a lot of effort in getting top specifications, both in design and technology. Optics are manufactured by the famous Schneider-Kreutznach. All camera’s have image stabilization, and the NV7 even two stabilizing mechanisms - that’s great for low-light shots!

The first test-images show remarkable low noise at the higher ISO settings of 800 and 1000.

Samsung has good bets to compete with the “established” brands this fall!

Digital Camera Shopper (print) has a good review of the Samsung Pro815 digital SLR camera: ‘This is not a camera for the shy and retiring. But the monster Samsung performs pretty well. It’s the amazing 15x zoom which dominates both the spec sheet and the camera itself. … You might imagine that the colossal 3.5 inch LCD would flatten the battery in no time, but Samsung claims a credible 450 shot capacity. … Samsung might be new to the “serious” camera arena, but the company has done a good job with the Pro815. The colors are rich and accurate, and exposure is pretty well perfect.’
