If anyone knows that a picture tells more than a thousand words, it’s us…
I promise not to tell more of it’s amazing beauty!
Fortunately, there’s also a lot of technology I can talk about: from a newly designed 7.2 MP CCD chip with a clever pixel-configuration, via a Carl Zeiss lens to an optical stabilizer and a very high ISO 1000 sensitivity.
The back of this very compact camera is almost completely filled with a large 3″ touchscreen.
AA batteries don’t fit here, so there’s a quickcharge special battery included. Also inside is a bit of internal memory: 56 Megabytes in case you forgot your memorystick.
Sony gives you the option of “Smart Zoom” - that is not a digital zoom in which pixels are interpolated, but a real portion of the original image.

Digitalcamerareview published a list of most popular digital cameras, based on the number of times info-pages were requested.
In the list, we’ll find Sony and Panasonic twice and Canon no less than six times!
Maybe even more amazing is the absense of Nikon. It makes me wonder how much this list parallels selling figures, thinking of the huge popularity of the D50, D70, D100 and their successors. There are only 2 SLR’s in the list anyway…

LetsGoDigital has a good review of the Sony A100 Digital SLR camera : ‘Sony has come up with a decent camera in the Alpha 100. A good beginning is half the battle. Consider the price/quality ration in the current market and you will see that the well known DSLR manufacturers have suddenly been confronted with a competitor to be afraid of! Not only is the Sony Alpha 100 a pleasure to work with, it also gives great results. People who now work with a Konica Minolta can go on to Sony without a hitch.’
Check out the latest price.

Announced in April, launching in July, the glossies are starting to call it the “must-have” digital camera for the serious photographer. Sony’s Alpha 100, priced at around $1000 (£700), is giving Canon and Nikon a good run for their money.
The Alpha is a powerful 10MP DSLR (Sony’s first) which has been specifically designed to allow amateur photographers to take professional-quality shots. The claim is that it’s as simple to use as a compact, with a SteadyShot anti-shake system that will be a boon to recovering alcoholics in particular.
The Alpha’s USP (unique selling point) seems to be its amazing versatility. More than 20 bespoke lenses will be available at launch. Even better, Sony (an electronics company) has worked with lens specialists Konica Minolta, resulting in lenses that are compatible with the Dynax range produced for Konica’s 35mm SLR cameras.
Sony has obviously excelled itself here and we await the launch with interest.
